the effect of buccal corticotomy on accelerating orthodontic tooth movement of maxillary canine
نویسندگان
چکیده
background: selective alveolar corticotomy is defined as an intentional injury to cortical bone. this technique is an effective means of accelerating orthodontic tooth movement. the aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of buccal corticotomy in accelerating maxillary canine retraction. materials and methods: the sample in this clinical trial study consisted of 15 adult female patients with therapeutic need for extraction of maxillary first premolars and maximum canine retraction. by use of split‑mouth design, at the time of premolars extraction, buccal corticotomy was performed around the maxillary first premolar, randomly on one side of maxilla, and the other side was reserved as the control side. canine retraction was performed by use of friction – less mechanic with simple vertical loop. every 2 weeks, distance between canines and second premolars was measured until complete space closure. the velocity of space closure was calculated to evaluate the effect of this technique in accelerating orthodontic tooth movement. the obtained data were statistically analyzed using independent t ‑test, and the significance was set at 0.05. results: the rate of canine retraction was significantly higher on the corticotomy side than the control side by an average of 1.8 mm/month versus 1.1 mm/month in the corticotomy side and control side, respectively ( p < 0.001). conclusion: based on result of this study, corticotomy can accelerates the rate of orthodontic tooth movement about two times faster than conventional orthodontics and it is significant in early stages after surgical porsedure. therefore buccal corticotomy is a useful adjunct technique for accelerating orthodontic tooth movement. key words: accelerated, orthodontics, buccal, cortex, surgerycorticotomy, tooth movement

The effect of caffeine on orthodontic tooth movement in rats
Objective(s): to determine the effect of different doses of caffeine on orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) in rats. Materials and Methods: Forty male 250-300 g Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups of ten animals each and received 0 (control), 1 g/l, 2 g/l and 3 g/l caffeine in tap water for 3 days. Orthodontic appliances were ligated between the maxillary first molars and in...
متن کاملEffect of Ovariectomy on Orthodontic Tooth Movement in Rats
Background and Aim: Estrogen affects the metabolism in females. This study aimed to assess the effect of absence of estrogen on orthodontic tooth movement in rats. Materials and Methods: In this animal study, 55 rats were randomly divided into four groups. Group 1 (n=10) had intact ovaries. In group 2 (n=15), ovaries were intact but the rats were subjected to stress due to tooth preparation. I...
متن کاملAccelerating tooth movement: the case against corticotomy-induced orthodontics.
A We are pleased to participate in this Point/ Counterpoint debate regarding corticotomy-facilitated orthodontics, also known as accelerated osteogenic orthodontics or periodontally accelerated osteogenic orthodontics. Drs Wilcko and Wilcko have presented their beliefs in the “Point” article. Our assignment is to present and justify an opposing viewpoint. Actually, there are some statements by ...
متن کاملAccelerating orthodontic tooth movement: A new, minimally-invasive corticotomy technique using a 3D-printed surgical template
BACKGROUND A reduction in orthodontic treatment time can be attained using corticotomies. The aggressive nature of corticotomy due to the elevation of muco-periosteal flaps and to the duration of the surgery raised reluctance for its employ among patients and dental community. This study aims to provide detailed information on the design and manufacture of a 3D-printed CAD-CAM (computer-aided d...

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
